Happy Monday! I hope everyone had an excellent weekend! It was a busy Monday, here in Room 18. The students had their first Art class as 5th graders today. They wound up sitting outside in the shade because it was cooler than the Art room.

We also began to set goals for the first quarter. Each student is expected to set three goals for him/herself. They create a plan for how they will reach these goals, and they determine how they will know when they have reached these goals. They will then revisit their goals at the end of the quarter to see how they did. These goals, along with any evidence of meeting them, will be shared with you at conferences.

In Math, the students took their initial knowledge check in ALEKS. This is a program that allows the children to work at their own pace on skills they are ready for. While there will still be instruction occurring in the classrooms based on our 5th grade standards, work with the ALEKS program will help to close gaps and push those that are ready for more. Students are able to work on ALEKS at home if they wish.

Tomorrow will be a 2:05 dismissal due the heat. I would like to encourage the students to bring a water bottle tomorrow.

Homework:

Reading--Read :)

Math--Freeman (corrections); all others (none)
